What is Scrum and its Connection with Agile Methodology?

Scrum can easily be considered the most popular Agile framework. The term “SCRUM” is often wrongly used interchangeably with “AGILE” by most practitioners. However, it’s important to note that this is a misconception. Scrum is just one of the frameworks through which you can implement Agile.

The word “scrum” comes from the sport of rugby. It represents the moment when players come together in a locked position pushing against opponents. Each player has a defined role in their position and can play both offensive and defensive roles according to the requirements of the situation.

Similarly, the IT scrum believes in self-managed development teams, skilled with three specific and clearly defined roles. These roles include – Product Owner (PO), Scrum Master (SM), and the development team consisting of programmers and testers. These teams work together in iterative time periods called sprints.

The first step is creating a list of tasks by the PO. It is a to-do list for the entire scrum team. Then the scrum team selects the highest-priority items and tries to complete them within a time interval called a sprint.

Artifacts: Product Backlog, Sprint Backlog, and Product Increment.

Events: Sprint, Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective.
